Postpartum Doula Training

Picture

Are you thinking about becoming a postpartum doula?  Are you interested in learning more about supporting mothers, partners, babies and their families?  With increasing attention focused on the postpartum period today, there has been a growing interest in the support postpartum doulas can offer.

Postpartum Doulas in the News

Postpartum doulas are trained in all aspects of care and support for mothers and their families after a baby is born:

  • Physical Support - ensuring the new mother is getting the nutrition and sleep they need to thrive, while helping them acquire the skills to confidently care for their baby

  • Emotional Support - providing the mother with a safe place to process their birth and adjust to the profound changes of new motherhood

  • Information Support - knowledge of current research, local resources and when and where to refer in the community.

In a Postpartum Doula training, you will learn the skills to capably support new mothers  and help them learn how to care for and understand their babies.

Hands-on Learning

Combining up to date research, group work, panel discussions and role play, this training meets the needs of students with diverse learning styles.

Every student brings their own experiences and skill sets to the training.  The trainer gives each student the opportunity to contribute their expertise, which results in an enriched experience for all.

Understanding the Complex Challenges of the New Family

Supporting a family during the postpartum period is so much more than cuddling babies.  In this training, you will gain an understanding of normal postpartum recovery, typical newborn development, learn how to recognize signs of PPMADs (postpartum mood and anxiety disorders), and acquire the skills to be able to refer to healthcare professionals as required.
